When you’re suffering from a cavity, it’s important to get it checked! Fillings prevent pain and sensitivity and keep the cavity from expanding. If you have a cavity, Cottonwood Dental would be happy to help you! There are several options available for fillings, and each option has its own benefits and drawbacks. Here’s a quick overview of the types of fillings.

Ceramic – Ceramic fillings are made of porcelain. These fillings match the color of your tooth, so they look natural. Ceramic fillings are resistant to staining, but they are more brittle than some other types of fillings, so they break easier. Ceramic fillings are also more expensive, they can sometimes cost as much or even more than gold fillings.

Metals – Silver and gold have been used for fillings for years because of their durability. Metal fillings last longer than any other type of filling, but they don’t match your teeth and they are more expensive.

Composite – Composite fillings are made of a mixture of fine particles of glass and plastic. Composite fillings match the color of your teeth, so they are suitable for use on the front teeth or other visible parts of the tooth. Composite fillings bond directly to the tooth, so there is less drilling required. Composite fillings are durable and long lasting.
