It’s not uncommon for people to get professional teeth whitening done. In fact, teeth whitening is a popular beauty enhancement procedure these days. However, there is an interesting history of our obsession with white teeth. As primates, our ancestors used white teeth as a way to identify potential mates. You see, white teeth were indicative of a healthy (and thus fertile) individual.

Perhaps, deep down, our past instinct to gravitate towards those with white teeth has followed us to this day. Or perhaps, we just all like the way our teeth would look in perfect condition: pearly white. Anthropologists and dentists alike can not seem to figure out the answer. Either way, the people love professional teeth whitening in Albuquerque and our team at Cottonwood Dental is more than qualified to give them the best treatment possible.

Why Do People Get Teeth Whitening, Albuquerque?

The main reason people get teeth whitening, Albuquerque, New Mexico, is because their teeth are either stained or a darker shade of yellow that they are not satisfied with. Our teeth are very sensitive and can be stained by a variety of things. The most common culprits are your daily coffee, red wine, dark tea, long-term smoking, or just the simple effects of aging. Some people would rather get teeth whitening, N.M., than give up their beloved cold brew or pour-over coffee, and that’s what Cottonwood Dental is here for!

Another reason people get teeth whitening, Albuquerque, is in preparation for some special event. Psychologists say that we have seven seconds to make a good first impression, so whether you are scheduled for an important job interview, meeting your partner’s parents for the first time, giving an important presentation, graduating, or any other milestone, your teeth are going to be one of the first things that people notice. In the same way that you will make sure your outfit and hair look perfect, you will want your teeth to look perfect.

Zoom Teeth Whitening – In Office

Zoom teeth whitening is a new form of whitening that’s become extremely popular over the past few years. The reason being is that it is much more convenient and affordable, with quicker results. The Zoom bleaching technique uses a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel along with the Zoom light to bleach the stained enamel while leaving all other aspects of the tooth unchanged. For the whole process, patients only have to go through three, 15-minutes procedures to see the full results.

Alternatives To Professional Teeth Whitening In Albuquerque

Besides professional teeth whitening, Rio Rancho, there are other ways to remove stains on your teeth, although they may not be as effective. You can go with store-bought whitening strips, although these are made with chemicals that can be harmful to your teeth and cause immediate hypersensitivity. For natural teeth whitening treatments, you can brush your teeth with baking soda, practice oil pulling with coconut oil or sunflower oil, rinsing your mouth with hydrogen peroxide, or by simply avoiding all of the ways that people stain their teeth.

Obviously, above all, the most traditional way to keep your teeth nice and white is by maintaining proper brushing and flossing techniques. The better care you take of your teeth, the whiter and healthier they will be. But if you don’t end up finding success with these natural options, professional teeth whitening in Albuquerque or zoom teeth whitening in office will be more than enough to get you the desired results.

Teeth Whitening Services

There are many methods Dr. Giaquinto uses to whiten your teeth. Typically this involves high concentrations of either Hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide such as in our Zoom whitening in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. Our whitening regimen includes the Luma light which is an intense light that’s focused on your teeth to activate the bleaching process.

Disclaimer: Don’t use household bleach/hydrogen peroxide on your teeth.

The teeth whitening process takes between one and two hours, and teeth may whiten anywhere from two to eight shades. In office methods and professional teeth whitening are considered to be some of the fastest, most effective and safest methods available.

Dr. Giaquinto takes an impression of your mouth and fabricates custom fitted whitening trays for you to take home. At home, you dispense teeth whitening gel into the trays and wear them for a few hours a day or night for a period of time.

Over-the-counter teeth whitening products have become very popular in recent years and can be found just about anywhere. These whitening strips can (in many cases) produce whiter teeth. The downside is they don’t produce same quality of results you would see with in-office treatments and whitening trays due to lower concentrations of the hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

These thin, flexible strips, coated with a whitening gel, are placed over your teeth. How long the whitening lasts depends on your teeth and how often you drink beverages like coffee or wine or if you smoke. One of the more effective whitening strips include Crest 3D White, 2 Hour Express Whitestrips, etc.

With this method, a whitening solutions is applied to the teeth via a one-size-fits-all tray. The accuracy of the fit is not as comfortable or effective as custom fabricated whitening trays. Gum irritation from average fitting trays is one of the downsides for this technique.

As a rule, Dr. Giaquinto has not found whitening tooth pastes to be effective. What we have seen is an increase in tooth sensitivity caused by the whitening gel found in these products.
