One form of cosmetic dentistry in Albuquerque is tooth whitening, which is used to brighten the natural color of the tooth enamel. It is an easy, non-invasive way to improve the appearance and of your smile. There are several different ways we can whiten a patients teeth. The Home tooth whitening systems are the most popular method, and can give patients dramatic results. However, before beginning a tooth whitening regimen, it’s important to determine if any fillings, crowns or other restorations need to be replaced, as tooth whitening only works on the natural tooth enamel. In our office, replacements will be done after the bleaching, so your new fillings will match the new color of your teeth.

Botox & Derma-Fill
What is Botox?
Every day it seems a new condition can be treated with this protein. As we’re uncovering the numerous benefits of Botox, it appears that our efforts in performing cosmetic dentistry in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque is not just for enhancing physical appearances. It has been reported in medical research that “BoNT [Botox] is used for pain relief in numerous conditions including tension headaches, migraine headaches, post-herpetic neuralgia and myofacial TMD,” according to PubMed Central.
Botox is currently the number one cosmetic treatment in the United States. It stops your body from making wrinkles by hindering the movement that causes them in the first place. Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified protein. The mechanism of action for Botox is really quite simple. Botox is a muscle relaxer. When the muscle does not contract, the dynamic motion that causes wrinkles in the skin will stop. The skin then starts to smooth out, and in approximately three to ten days after treatment, the skin above those muscles becomes nice and smooth. The effects of Botox last for approximately three to four months, at which time the patient will need to repeat the treatment. Botox has also been used for important clinical uses for patients with chronic TMJ and facial pain. Botox is also used to complement esthetic dentistry cases, as a minimally invasive alternative to surgically treating high lip line cases, denture patients who have trouble adjusting to new dentures, lip augmentation, and has uses in orthodontic cases where retraining of the facial muscles is necessary.

What are Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers will volumize wrinkles, creases, and folds around the face in areas that have lost fat and collagen as we age. After age 30, we all lose approximately 1% of hyaluronic acid from our bodies. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm can be injected right underneath these folds to replace the volume lost which creates a younger appearance in the face.
Dermal fillers can be used to complete cosmetic dentistry cases by creating a beautiful, young-looking frame around the teeth. The effect of dermal fillers typically last anywhere from 6 to 12 months at which point the procedure needs to be repeated. Both Botox and dermal fillers are procedures that take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.
